THE BIRDS AND THE BEES! YIKES

O.K., this will be short, I promise! I just have a funny story to share. Yesterday at church our Bishop talked about dangers of pornography and stuff similar to it for children. We have also been told to talk to our kids about the "birds and the bees" close to the age of baptism, so that they hear it from you and not on t.v. or from friends. Well, last night we did that with our kids (yes at the same time). It was so funny:

1) James drew pictures of everything, and I mean everything! What an artist!

2) Christian and Taylor kept looking at us like we were totally crazy!

3) When James explained to them how to make a baby I busted up laughing so hard! I couldn't help it!

4) We kept it very "matter of fact" and "medical", but it was still freaking me out that we were talking to our kids about that stuff. I kept covering my mouth from being in shock and from trying to not go into laughing seizures.

5) I feel like we corrupted our kids, but I want them to feel comfortable coming to us, and not learning things from the wrong people.

6) How else do you explain to kids what pornography is?

7) And lastly this was the only way to answer their question of why it was o.k. for us to see each other without our clothes on, because they thought we were being bad changing in the same room! I guess they got their questions answered! (and then some)

Yikes! That is too funny, drawings and everything :) I am not looking forward to that talk someday, I am glad Alyssa still has at least 4 years, although the other day she asked me if we could go buy another brother or sister and I told her that isn't how you get a baby and she said how do we do it? Uhhhh. And then I changed the subject.

Amber, as usual you are my humor for the day. I loved the part about James drawing the pictures; I want to see them. By the way; I am still laughing.
For our boys we had a little book that we put together with drawings of the time line for their lives with scouting, priesthood, missions, and marriage then we got into the real discussion. I ended up doing the discussion. We then took them out to dinner. I don't know who ended up with the book.
The three girls learned about it all together one night. We got together in my room and we had the discussion. For this event Roger chickened out.
The good thing was they did feel free to ask us questions; it went well; I think.
Now days I think you have to start earlier.

Do you think I could just hire you guys to come talk to my kids, I still don't know if I know all about how the birds and the bees work. I'll finish your basement personally for you if you will.

Hey Amber, its me Beth. I thought I better get in touch and let you know we are still alive and doing well. I created my own blog before we left Montana. You can check it out at www.smithx4.blogspot.com. I really loved your blog when I first saw it and you inspired me to do my own. It was a lot of fun making it and now I am blog obsessed.

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and let you know about the blog. Say hello to the kids for Brady & Nathan.

Take care,
Beth :)
